Al-Ahli are reportedly trying to hijack Manchester United’s proposed move for Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, with United seemingly needing to sell Fred before pursuing the Fiorentina midfielder.
According to a report from French outlet L’Equipe, the Saudi Pro League side are interested in trying to lure the midfielder to the Pro League after his stellar performances in the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar over the summer.
The Fiorentina midfielder has been linked with a move away from Italy since his superb performances, with Barcelona seeing their offer for the midfielder rejected back in January according to Fabrizio Romano, but it now seems English side Manchester United are pushing the hardest to sign the midfielder.
Al-Ahli have already completed the signing of Allan Saint-Maximin, Riyad Mahrez and Roberto Firmino this summer and the hope is they can lure the midfielder to the club and continue their rebuild.
Midfield ‘fortitude’ wanted
According to the same report from the French outlet, Al-Ahli are looking for solidity in the middle of the park and they believe that the Moroccan can offer that to them. Whether the 26-year-old would make the move to Al-Ahli is seemingly a different story.
According to Alex Crook, a journalist from UK radio station TalkSport, Amrabat would prefer to stay in Europe with his preference being a move to United if they come in with an offer.
However, the tweet also suggests that United need to move on Brazilian midfielder Fred before they can make the move for Amrabat. This could open the door for Al-Ahli to make their move for the midfielder and with the money that is available for the side to spend, you’d expect them to match Fiorentina’s asking price quite comfortably.
But it seems for now that the midfielder isn’t too keen on the move to the Saudi Pro League, but as the window progresses, maybe that stance will change.
