Negotiations are reportedly ongoing for Al-Ahli to sign Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski in what would be an audacious move for the Polish midfielder.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs are still locked in ongoing conversations about the midfielder’s future.
Romano broke the story a few days ago and reported that the Saudi side had presented a formal offer for the midfielder, with the Polish international out of contract in 2024.
Al-Ahli, now managed by former RB Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle, are eager to agree a fee with the Italian side soon for the midfielder.
As well as this, if they can’t agree on a fee for the Polish midfielder, then they will move on to alternative targets with Atletico Madrid’s Marcos Llorente believed to be on the list of targets according to Romano.
The Polish midfielder was a key component for Napoli as they won their first Scudetto since 1990, but the midfielder may well be out the door and on his way to the Middle East.
Midfielder ‘open’ to move
Zielinski,29, had reportedly been close to agreeing a new contract with Napoli and was even willing to take a pay cut to remain in Italy according to Lazio president Claudio Lotito.
However, the Saudi side has thrown a spanner in the works. Romano claims that the midfielder would be open to making the move to Al-Ahli, with personal terms not thought to be a problem for the Polish midfielder.
Napoli were trying to fend off Lazio’s interest in the midfielder when they offered him a new contract according to Alfredo Pedulla, but it now seems Al-Ahli have come up on the blind side and have made a formal offer for the 29-year-old.
Al-Ahli tried to hijack Al-Hilal’s move for PSG midfielder Marco Verratti according to L’Equipe, but that deal seems a tough one to do, so attention has now turned to Zielinski and a deal seems a lot further down the line than Verratti ever was.
