Al-Ahli have suffered a huge blow in the race for the Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat after it emerged the midfielder has made his choice about which club he wants to join this summer.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the Moroccan has made his decision and wants to join Manchester United this summer, as they can offer the midfielder Champions League football.
The Moroccan has been heavily linked to United this summer and Spanish side Barcelona last summer, but it seems the midfielder prefers a move to Old Trafford to play under his former manager when the midfielder was at FC Utrecht, Erik ten Hag.
In recent days, Al-Ahli have been linked with the midfielder and were pushing hard to sign him according to a report from L’Equipe but it seems the midfielder has turned down their proposal.
Higher wages were on offer but it has been rejected
According to the same report from Pedulla, Amrabat turned down a higher wage offer from the Saudi side than the English side were prepared to pay but it seems the midfielder has his heart set on a move to England.
The move to hijack the deal for Amrabat always seemed unlikely as last week Pedulla claimed that the 26-year-old had reached a full agreement over personal terms to join the Old Trafford club, so for Al-Ahli to hijack the move it would have taken a lot of convincing, and probably money, to woo the midfielder into making the move to the Middle East.
it’s a big blow for the Saudi side who are seemingly looking for more depth and quality in the midfield after they completed the trio of attacking signings in Allan Saint-Maximin, Riyad Mahrez and Roberto Firmino, but with a lack of creativity and indeed steel in the midfield, the Saudi side may struggle to stop chances being created.
Al-Ahli will certainly be an interesting side to watch this season.
