Al-Ahli could be about to pull off one of the signings of this summer transfer window so far if reports are to be believed.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga looks set to make the move to Matthias Jaissle’s side this summer after the Saudi side triggered the release clause in the Spaniard’s contract.

According to the post from Romano, the player has agreed to a move to the Saudi side so the deal is subject to a medical seemingly, so the deal could well be completed soon.

This comes as a huge boost for Al-Ahli who were seemingly struggling to add midfield depth to their side but have now added a superb goalscoring midfielder to their ranks.

Jaissle crucial to Veiga deal

According to Romano, the manager, whom the Saudi side appointed from RB Salzburg, was crucial in the deal to sign the midfielder.

This deal comes as a huge surprise as many of Europe’s top clubs including Chelsea and Napoli according to The Guardian.

The pair were very interested in the Spaniard, but those deals have fallen through and now the midfielder will be moving to the Middle East.

According to the post, Veiga was the Saudi side’s secret top target.

After Al-Ahli had previously targeted Marco Verratti from Paris Saint Germain and had even gone as far as agreeing personal terms with the Italian midfielder, the deal is now seemingly off as they target the 21-year-old Celta Vigo midfielder.

Reportedly this is part of Al-Ahli’s plan to recruit some of the world’s best young stars, so this potentially isn’t the final deal that Jaissle’s side will do this summer and could well propel themselves to one of the favourites for the Pro League title.
