Al-Ahli have suffered a big blow this summer after Manchester City confirmed Bernardo Silva had signed a new contract with the Premier League champions.
The Portuguese winger was linked with a move to the Saudi side by CBS Sports back in July as well as Paris Saint Germain but his one-year contract extension has ended that possibility happening this summer.
The Portuguese winger was seemingly unhappy at the Premier League side but has decided to sign a new contract extension will be a big blow to the Saudi side.
After Matthias Jaissle’s side signed Riyad Mahrez from Pep Guardiola’s side, the Saudi side seemingly wanted to add to their ranks with the addition of the former AS Monaco midfielder.
Silva’s release clause
There are rumours that the new deal that the Portuguese winger had signed contains a release clause believed to be around £35 million.
However, those rumours are seemingly wrong. According to journalist Matteo Moretto, the 29-year-old has a £50 million clause in his contract that comes into effect next summer.
The relatively cheap release clause for the winger means that Silva will likely depart City next summer.
Al-Ahli will no doubt receive competition in the form of PSG, so will have to move quickly to sign the Portuguese forward.
The 29-year-old’s switch from the Etihad Stadium to the Parc des Princes collapsed entirely following Riyad Mahrez’s shock transfer to PIF-funded Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ahli.
So the Saudi side may well have given themselves time to prepare to push for Silva.
Guardiola reportedly vetoed the deal when it emerged Mahrez had completed his move to the Saudi side.
An attack that includes Silva, Mahrez, Allan Saint-Maximin and Roberto Firmino would surely win the Saudi Pro League title.
